YOU HAVE BEEN TO SPACE Virtual Gallery Walkthrough

<artist statement>

This collection is entitled "YOU HAVE BEEN TO SPACE".

The title is a statement of presence, to recognize that while astronauts may leave the Earth's atmosphere, all of us on Earth are traveling through space. We cannot "go" to space, we are already there. We may revolve around the sun, but let us not forget that the arm of the Milky Way Galaxy which we are in is traveling at 130 miles per second. You've never actually inhabited the same physical space twice. 

These pieces are augmented photographs, as an exercise in revealing structure and composition in existing patterns through layering and manipulation. The source photographs are of smooth stones which I painted designs on with metallic markers (thanks to Chris Gambino for the markers!). The subject material in this collection centers on our experiences over time and our lasting impacts on the universe around us. I think it is very important to consider that even our smallest energies can have powerful effects on future generations. To this point, I certainly had no concept of typing these words when I was drawing on rocks so many months ago.
