As a celebration for graduation, my brother planned a trip for our family to visit Sequoia National Forest, and we all had a wonderful time. I took 600 pictures in a day while I was there, but upon review the next day, no photos came close to conveying the sacred magnificence of this place. And so I turned in a completely different direction to make a representation of nature which is surreal and abstract-- to make the magic communicable through exaggeration.

There are magical places all over this Earth, maybe even in your own backyard or just outside the city. Go there and experience what cannot be felt through a screen. When you connect with this beauty, take it as a real reminder that our entire relationship to nature and Earth is in violent crisis, not in the future, but right now. It's not too late to get involved with whatever environmental concern speaks to your spirit, but there's no time to wait.

Find beauty in nature and fight for it.
In gratitude,
JCMB
