Thank you very much for visiting this collection of work, titled

"scuffs scrapes spills stains"

This series uses augmented photography to call attention to the

aesthetic produced by accident, spontaneity, entropy, and chaos.

When considering my own motivations for creating this work,

I had to try and dig into when I started noticing these things

and after great reflection, i reached a conclusion. see below.

the great mouse detective made me do it

i remember seeing this as a child and deciding

i wanted to be detail oriented too

i thought it was from reading sherlock holmes

until i remembered that i didn't read

sherlock holmes,  i was 8.

but i definitely watched this movie a lot.

for whatever reason i remember this movie

as being strangely influential as a moment

when as a kid, i decided i wanted to

really figure things out, what caused things,

could i replicate things, how to make conclusions

on as little evidence as possible...

that kind of childhood dawning of awareness

when you kinda start noticing that

there's a whole lot more stuff going on,

literally everywhere.

this was the earliest memory i could conjure

relating to that kind of visual deduction,

which leads me to my present fascination with

scuffs scrapes spills and stains.

i'm deeply interested in these

spontaneous effects of human activity

because of how much life must have been lived

in order to make things this way

i don't only see a coffee spill,

i see a missed cup of coffee,

a conversation changed,

a life altered...

i don't just look at a scratch in an alley

i imagine a distraught driver

on their way to the next destination

with yet another bill to pay...

these marks are all around us

telling us that we are alive

and that things don't always go right

but they keep going anyway

we make them too

we have marked our worlds more times

than we could ever remember or count

things don't always go right

but we've made it this far

we keep going anyway
